Fitness is a Vital Signâ„¢
Like blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose levels and other essential medical measures, your fitness level is a critical measurement of your health.
Why It Matters
For more than 50 years, Cooper Clinic has led the way in preventive medicine, proving cardiovascular fitness is a crucial biometric evaluation for predicting quantity and quality of life. Cardiovascular fitness measurement is so important it can be considered a vital sign of health.
CooperFit™ is a scientifically proven cardiovascular fitness assessment test that gives you the data you need to take control of your health—because your future depends on it.
What is the CooperFitâ„¢ Test?
CooperFit™ cardiovascular fitness test is a reliable, quick, science-based evaluation of your body’s ability to consume oxygen during exercise, known as predicted max VO2. This measurement is one of the most powerful indicators of overall health, chronic disease risk, quality of life and even lifespan.
This test is designed for everyone. Whether you’re looking to improve your health, understand your longevity risks or improve your quality of life, CooperFitâ„¢ provides a picture of your fitness as a biometric that you can manage to gain all of these benefits.
Proven Research
Research from Cooper Clinic and Cooper Center Longitudinal Study proves cardiovascular fitness impacts your long-term health more than most any other measure.
Benefits:
- Reduces the risk of dying of any cause by 58%
- Significantly lowers the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and dementia among others.
- Decreases mortality risk of all cancers
- Improves your energy, mobility and cognitive function
- Improves your quality of life by decreasing fatigue, heartburn, depression and anxiety, joint and muscle pain, headaches and more

How It Works
CooperFitâ„¢ is a simple and scientifically proven test that provides an accurate measure of your cardiovascular fitness.
Step 1: Your CooperFitâ„¢ technician determines which method is best for you.
- One-Mile Walk Test – A best effort walking test designed for individuals of all fitness levels. Most individuals take this test.
- 12-Minute Run Test – A best effort run (not jog) test for those who are able to run at least an eight-minute mile pace for three miles. This test should only be taken by participants who can sustain their best effort speed for 12 minutes.
Step 2: Get your results.
- Once you’ve completed the test, your results indicate your cardiovascular fitness level based on age and gender as well as where you stand compared to optimal fitness levels.
Step 3: Take action.
- Depending on your results, you’ll be provided with a personalized walking or jogging program to help improve your health and fitness. Or you’ll be recommended to continue following your existing workout routine.
- We encourage you to share these results with your health care provider as your fitness level is a predictor of your overall health.
- Based on your results, your technician will discuss a recommended retest date.
