Program has helped hundreds of women embrace healthier lifestyles

DALLAS – May 16, 2016 – Cooper Aerobics, the leader in preventive medicine, celebrates 10 years of the Female Focus program at Cooper Fitness Center. Since 2006, hundreds of women each year have participated in more than 3,000 classes within the science-based program designed to help women lose weight, as well as treat and manage diseases such as osteoporosis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Through the six-week program’s small group training sessions, nutrition talks and fitness assessments, Female Focus Program Director and Professional Fitness Trainer Colette Cole, MS, gives the tools needed for women to maximize their wellness. “Many of our participants know they need to make lifestyle changes, and this is their first step,” says Cole. “Six weeks of a fitness program turns into months and years of community for many of the women who join the program.”

Each session includes a baseline assessment, consultation with a professional fitness trainer, individual nutrition consultation, small group training sessions, program booklet, nutrition lectures, reassessment at the end of the program and access to Cooper Fitness Center.

“I registered for my first six-week Female Focus program in 2007 and have continued it due to the accountability it offers to help me be the best I can be. Since then I have lost and kept off 20 pounds,” says Ruth Ann Johnstone, Female Focus program participant and Cooper Fitness Center member. “In addition to the weight loss, I have avoided Type 2 diabetes, which runs in my family, and have come to know the program as both a structure to keep me accountable for my health and injury-free, as well as an active support system of women going through similar life experiences as me.”

The program uses materials and research from Women's Health and Fitness Guide written by Michele Kettles, MD, MSPH, Chief Medical Officer of Cooper Clinic, and Colette Cole, MS, Cooper Fitness Center Female Focus Director and Professional Fitness Trainer. Participants find added value in the credibility of the program due to its foundation in science and expertise of fitness instructors, registered dietitian nutritionists and lecturers.
