The Mahoney Formula

This formula will provide an estimation of your percent body fat.

Calculations for Men
Take your height in inches and multiply by 4, then subtract 128.
This number corresponds to your approximate weight (in pounds), which will give a 15 percent body fat. Add 10 percent to this number for an 19 percent body fat.

Example for a 6'0" man:
72 (height in inches) x 4 = 288
288-128 = 160

So, for a 15 percent body fat, a 6'0" man should weigh approximately 160 lbs. For 19 percent body fat, add 16 (10percent of 160) for a weight of 176 lbs.

Calculations for Women
Take your height in inches and multiply by 3.5, then subtract 108.

This number corresponds to your approximate weight (in pounds), which will give a 18 percent body fat. Add 10 percent to this number for an 22 percent body fat.

Example for a 5'4" woman:
64 (height in inches) x 3.5 = 224
224-108 = 116

Therefore, for an 18 percent body fat, a 5'4" woman should weigh approximately 116 lbs. For 22 percent body fat, add 12 (10 percent of 116) for a weight of 128 lbs.
