How to Calculate Your BMI

To calculate your BMI take your weight in pounds and multiply by 703. Divide that number by your height in inches. Then divide that number again by your height in inches. That number is your Body Mass Index.

If your BMI is:
  • 18-24.9 then you are of normal weight
  • 25-29.9 you are overweight
  • 30 and higher you are defined as obese

This formula is for adults and will not be accurate if you are extremely muscular. The formulas for children are more complex. For information regarding children's BMI, please click here.

Adults can also use the Mahoney Formula as another way to calculate their percent body fat.
