Youth Investigator
Dallas
Cooper Institute
Full time. The Cooper Institute Center for Youth Initiatives is seeking an experienced investigator to direct its youth research program. Candidates should be recognized experts in youth fitness or children's health with a distinguished record of accomplishments, including scientific publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, leadership in national scientific affairs, and research grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other sources. A major component of the mission of The Cooper Institute is to enhance the fitness and health of youth by conducting research that will lead to more effective programs and policies in local, state, national, and international arenas.
The youth investigator will be expected to extend and expand youth research at The Cooper Institute by conceptualizing new directions and developing initiatives to capitalize on Fitnessgram®, Nutrigram®, and the Cooper Youth Data Repository. These databases host youth fitness, physical activity, and nutrition data from schools and community organizations currently from the United States with plans in place to develop The Cooper International Youth Fitness Test, an international Fitnessgram. Initially, existing funding will support this research with a variety of opportunities to obtain funding for an expanded research agenda. The youth investigator will work closely with the scientific advisory boards of Fitnessgram and Nutrigram to implement a robust agenda in both evaluation and intervention research
In addition, NFL Charities, the charitable foundation of the National Football League, has awarded a three-year, $1.8 million grant to The Cooper Institute to support youth health and prevent childhood obesity as part of NFL PLAY 60. Data will be collected from student fitness assessments over the course of three years to form a youth longitudinal study tracking health-related fitness results and analyzing how best to intervene. The results of these analyses will be published as well as provided to local, state, and national policy makers.
Salary and benefits are competitive. We are prepared to be flexible in designing the specifics of this position to increase its attractiveness to an outstanding investigator.
Applicants should send a statement of interest, curriculum vitae, and salary history via e-mail to: jlayton@cooperinst.org.
