Gastroenterology
Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine that focuses on digestive diseases affecting the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. To provide a clear picture of your gastrointestinal health, Cooper Clinic provides colonoscopic and endoscopic exams using the latest technologies.
- Colonoscopy allows the gastroenterologist to examine the entire large intestine to remove pre-cancerous polyps and detect early cancer, colitis, diverticular disease, and other conditions. Cooper Clinic physicians recommend traditional or virtual colonoscopy every five years beginning between ages 40 and 50, unless otherwise recommended by your physician.
- Endoscopy provides an examination of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum—the first part of the small intestine—to uncover reasons for swallowing difficulties, nausea, vomiting, reflux, bleeding, indigestion, abdominal pain, or chest pain.
Because these procedures require special preparation, please schedule your appointment on the day after your comprehensive examination or at another convenient time.
