Cooper Swim Academy Class Descriptions and Times |

Cooper Swim Academy group lessons are categorized and each color represents a different skill level. Please read the class descriptions below and register your child for the appropriate level.
WHITE 10:30-11 a.m.; 2:30-3 p.m.
The child must be 3 years old (as of June 1, 2008), and will
have little or no previous instruction. This class will introduce
basic water skills such as blowing bubbles, submerging, floating,
gliding, and moving through the water. The emphasis is on
becoming more comfortable in the water.
RED 9:30-10 a.m.; 1-1:30 p.m.
The child must be at least 4 years old (as of Sept. 1, 2008).
The child will have little or no previous instruction. This
class includes introduction to floating, gliding, and using
the arms to move through the water. The emphasis is on becoming
more comfortable in the water. Children already comfortable
under water might consider the Orange Class.
ORANGE 9-9:30 a.m.; 1:30-2 p.m.
Typical age range is 4 to 6 years. The child must have little
or no fear of the water and be able to swim five to 10 feet
to an instructor. Class emphasis is on freestyle arms, front
and back float, breathing techniques, kicking, and ease and
comfort in the water.
YELLOW 10-10:30 a.m.; 2-2:30 p.m.
Typical age range is 4 to 7 years. The child must have no
fear of the water and be able to swim 30 to 50 feet. The class
emphasis is on proper freestyle mechanics in coordination
with balance and breathing. This class is a must for breathing
fundamentals. Backstroke and kneeling racing start from the
side of the pool are introduced.
GREEN 3-3:45 p.m.
Typical age range is 6 to 8 years. The child must be completely
at ease in any depth of water and be able to swim 50 feet
freestyle. This class emphasizes increased distance in freestyle
while maintaining proper stroke mechanics and breathing to
the side. Backstroke and racing start are also taught.
BLUE 3:45-4:30 p.m.
Typical age range is 7 to 12 years. The child must be completely
at ease in any depth of water and be able to swim 50 feet
freestyle. The class emphasis is on increased distance in
freestyle while maintaining proper stroke mechanics and breathing
to the side. Backstroke and racing start techniques are also
taught. This class is for stronger swimmers who have had previous
instruction and will be able to swim 50 feet repeatedly for
30 to 45 minutes.
VIOLET 4:30-5:15 p.m.
Typical age range is 7 to 12 years. The child can comfortably
swim 50 feet freestyle while correctly and consistently breathing
to the side. Proficient in backstroke. Class emphasis is on
advanced efficiency in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke,
and racing starts. Butterfly and elementary backstroke may
be introduced. This class is for stronger swimmers who have
had previous instruction and will be able to swim 50 feet
repeatedly, using proper technique, for 30 to 45 minutes.
BLACK 5:15-6 p.m.
Typical age range is 8 to 12 years. Child must have successfully completed the VIOLET CLASS. This special interest class focuses on competitive aspects of the four strokes, starts, and turns.
Other Important Information
Please make sure your child arrives 10 minutes prior to the
start of the class. Seating for parents is available. Also
please have your child use the restroom before coming to class
and do not forget to have your child wear sunscreen.
